Tips for Making the Most Out of Your First Drum Lesson

Drum Kit Lessons And Tips

Drums are known as instruments that are easier to learn than others – at beginner levels, drum students don’t need to learn sheet music and students who have a good sense of rhythm can have a sense of satisfaction right from the first lesson. If you are currently preparing for your first drum lesson, here is what you should expect:

  • Practicing the grip – learning the right way to hold the drumsticks is essential for playing drums, so you can expect your teacher to spend a part of the first lesson showing you how to hold the sticks;
  • Practicing correct posture – another aspect that might seem like unimportant at first, but is, in fact, essential for playing the drums, is correct posture – without it, your back, your shoulder and your arms might be exposed to too much strain, which might cause you pain and might also diminish the strength you are able to put into your play. The best way to adopt the correct posture is to learn it and to pay attention to it is from day one, so posture will probably be another thing that your teacher will spend time with during the first lesson;
  • Getting to know the drum set – the components of the drum kit and the way each of the instruments is sounded is another subject for the first drum lesson.
