If you’re just starting out in the world of musicians, and you want to get yourself the best drum set out there, it’s important to consider the option of buying a used set, rather than spending a lot of money on a new one.
It’s true, new drum sets have all the flashy features and qualities that most kids will love, and they are recommended by some of the top musicians in the industry. So if you’re serious about making it big, then you will at some point have to buy a new drum set to learn and practice at a higher level. However, for beginners, a newer set or even can actually be more of an impediment than an asset.
Learning can be accomplished better with a drum set that doesn’t necessarily have all the flashy qualities and the advanced drum types you can look for. Instead, a simple, 5-piece set with a starter kit or percussion rental that was well kept and slightly used is your best choice, as it’s cheaper, it was proven to work over a longer period of time, and it’s easier to replace if you want something else.
In contrast, a newer drum set is more of a long term commitment. If at some point you reach a level where you’ve learned enough about drumming to know that’s what you want to do at a professional level, then it might be time to take the next step, save money if necessary, and buy one of those awesome new drum sets.
