Percussion Practice Exercises For Beginners

Drum Practice Tips

If you are passionate about drums and want to improve your drumming skills, you must be willing to practice a lot, because this is the only way to work on important aspects and strengthen your weaknesses.  There are many music stores who offer percussion rental if you want to test your drumming skills and see if it is of interest to you, prior to buying a drum set.

There are different types of practice exercises that you should try, so stop wasting time and grab your drumsticks!

Warm up exercises

Playing any instrument must begin with a warming up program, to prepare your muscles, coordinate your limbs and build your confidence. Do these exercises for at least 10 minutes before the actual playing and use a metronome to get into the rhythm.

Warm up exercises for drummers range according to their skill level , but in each case the drummer has to start slowly, because warming up is about accuracy, not power or speed; there will be time for these later.

Drummers must do warm up exercise on all their percussion instruments: snare drum, bass drum, cymbal etc.

Exercises for speed

These are designed for playing drums faster and involve developing sound techniques and independence. Having an incorrect technique will definitely inhibit your playing speed and may even result in injury, so take time to develop good drumstick technique before attempting to hit those drums faster and faster.

A good tip is to use heavier drumsticks for practice; this way, when you switch back to your regular sticks, they will be pretty much effortless to handle.
