You have read lots of articles about how to put together the perfect drum set and you finally have your set assembled, chances are that there are still lots of fun facts that you never knew about your drum kit – here are some:
- Drums are among the oldest instruments in the world – the oldest discovered drum, the alligator drum, is around two thousand years old, but drums were probably used long before that. The shape that was used thousands of year ago, when the first drum was assembled, is still very similar to modern drums;
- The pedal used for playing bass drums has been invented and added only in 1909;
- The drum kit dates back to the 1890’s, when the idea to assemble multiple drums to make the playing more comfortable and more varied was born;
- The largest drum kit in the world has 813 pieces and it took more than 35 years to build. If it is disassembled, the reassembly takes 15 hours and it requires 4 people. The owner is working on a much larger project, looking for a way to add more drums and to expand the set to a staggering one thousand pieces. You can also learn all about your drum set by taking drum classes for beginners at a music store near you.
