The cymbal is a common percussion instrument that consists of a thin, usually round plate made from various types of metal alloys, each of which deliver a different sound. Cymbals are usually included in drum sets and are used by a variety of bands, such as jazz bands, orchestras, heavy metal bands and marching bands. Here are the most common types of cymbals:
- Orchestral cymbals – the colors and effects delivered by these types make them stand out even in very large orchestras;
- Crash cymbals – they most often come in pairs, each one being help by the special straps they are equipped with. They can be sounded by rubbing them against each other or striking them;
- Hi-hat cymbals – these are sets consisting of two cymbals on a stand and operated with the help of a foot pedal. They are used in rock bands, in traditional music, such as blues and in many other music styles;
- Suspended cymbals – this single cymbal hangs from a leather strap attached to a stand and it vibrates freely while the music is being played.
