How to Keep Your Drum Set Clean

How To Clean Your Drum Set

Drum sets are not cheap and they are also sensitive instruments that need to be stored properly and kept clean to give you the rewarding playing experience that you are looking for. Here is how to keep your drums clean:

  • Disassembling your drums – to be able to clean the drums, you need to take them apart to remove the dust and grime that gathers inside over time;
  • Cleaning the parts – clean the shell with a special shell cleaner spray that you can buy in music stores. Spray the cleaner on, then remove it with a soft microfiber cloth, put a drop of special oil on the end of each tension rod and put all the hardware back to where it belongs. Clean the drum heads as well or remove them if you have been using them for more than 6-9 months or if they are dented;
  • Cleaning the hardware – it usually needs only a quick wipe with a non-abrasive cleaner or a special hardware cleaner;
  • Store the drum in a room that is not too hot and not too cold and where the air is not too dry. Don’t place your drums close to a source of heat or next to a window.  If you happen to take music lessons Denver instructors teach, they will show you how to keep your musical instruments clean.
