Do You Need to Own a Drum Set to Take Lessons?

private drum lessons drum set

These days, ownership is a lot less important than it used to be. When it comes to drum sets, you basically don’t even need to own a drum set of your own to take private drum lessons. It’s enough to rent one or even to borrow a used drum set from a friend.

Most lessons these days are online, and with COVID-19 still sticking around, it might be that way for a while. As such, as long as your drum set is functional, you don’t necessarily need to own it. If you have a friend who is willing to let you use their drum set for taking online lessons, you can get away without having to spend anything. If you don’t you might have to rent one for a limited period of time, so you can practice the lessons you follow, but even then the amount you have to pay is far less of a problem than the amount you’d have to pay to actually buy a brand new drum kit.

Another option is to buy a used drum set, which will usually be significantly less expensive than a new one. However, with so many music sites offering help and information with renting or financing your drum sets and other musical instruments, you won’t have to resort to that approach just to learn how to play the drums.
