The Most Common Drum Riffs

drum lessons drum riffs

Drums are great instruments for beginners looking for a quick sense of success – many learners say that there are many easy to learn, but spectacular drum riffs that you can amaze your audience with and get the applause that you want so much. Here are some that every drummer should know:

  • The standard 8th note groove – this iconic beat is what most of the music that we listen to is based on, be it jazz, rock, pop, blues or other genres. You will need to play the low-pitched bass drum on beats 1 and 3, the high-pitched snare on 2 and 4, then at the end, you will play the hi-hat cymbal and then repeat;
  • The disco groove – this one is essential if you want the people around you to get into the party mood. It uses offbeat, placing emphasis on the 8th notes in between beats, rather than on the beats, therefore it creates the right atmosphere for wild dancing;
  • The half-time shuffle – this is a difficult one, but the effort of learning it is surely worthwhile. The groove is so special and so pleasing to the ear because of the gentle snare hits that fill the gaps between high-hat notes.  Learn drum riffs with drum lessons for adults at your convenience.
